u.s. travel information
We created this page with the first-time traveler in mind. If you’re a seasoned traveler (lucky!) then this is old news to you, but if this is your first trip off the continent of North America to North Africa, then we have you covered. Take a look, and if you have questions, send us a note. Happy traveling!
passport
You need a passport to do what you want to do - travel to Morocco. If you already have one, make sure it’s not expired. If you need one, try to get it at least 4-6 months before you travel. Click on the Learn More link for passport information.
travel abroad
The U.S. Government offers a program, the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program where you can enroll your trip to Morocco, so the Department of State can contact you in case of an emergency. It’s free, and it’s easy. It allows you real-time updates about health, weather, safety and security issues while you’re in Morocco. It isn’t mandatory, but if you want to be extra cautious, then click on the Learn More link and check it out.
u.s. embassy
It’s a good idea to know where the U.S. Embassy is located while you’re in Morocco (it’s in Rabat). What if a pandemic strikes, and you need to ….
It can’t happen twice, can it?
We’re always here too, but it’s good to have this information handy.

immunizations
Travel-type vaccines are not required to enter Morocco; however, if you feel better getting them, then by all means do. Check with your doctor at least 4-6 weeks ahead of time, as some vaccines take longer to become effective than others.
currency
Morocco’s currency is the dirham (abbreviated MAD within Morocco). You will find exchange places in the airport and scattered about the cities, as well as ATMs. Your credit card will be useful sometimes, but most vendors and restaurants either prefer or only take cash. Morocco doesn’t allow their currency to leave the country, so be sure to exchange it before you head home. Better yet, spend it!
lost luggage
You arrive at the airport, get to the baggage claim, excited and… where’s my bag?
Our mention of this has nothing to do with Morocco, it’s for other personal reasons (don’t ask). We want you to have the best time, without any hiccups, so we offer the following advice to help ward off a lost bag, or deal with it if it happens:
Once your suitcase is packed and you’re ready to go, make sure you put your nametag on it.
Write your name, address, telephone number, and email address clearly and make sure your nametag is secured to your suitcase.
Slide your name and address info inside your suitcase.
Take a photograph of your suitcase.
When you check your luggage at the airport and they give you that little baggage receipt, hold on to it. Better, yet, also take a picture of it.
Click the Learn More link below to find out what to do IF your luggage doesn’t make it to Morocco with you.
