TANGIER TO FES - ROUNDTRIP
Tangier! The gateway between Africa and Europe since Phoenician times! It’s beautiful, clean and has a taste of Europe throughout, but you don’t want to spend ALL your time here while you’re in Morocco, do you? Of course not. That’s why we planned this adventure for you. From Tangier to Fes and back in 5-days with a lot of interesting stops in between. Take a look!
Day 1
We’re taking a one-hour drive this morning to Chefchaouen, more commonly known as “The Blue City.” It’s a great little spot for walking slow, having a delicious meal and picking up some mementos for back home. There’s a photo opportunity around every corner and that is not an exaggeration. When you’re finished here, we head to Volubilis. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s an ancient city, at one point the capital of the Kingdom of Mauretania and then under Roman rule from the 1st Century. It’s an amazing experience to wander through the ruins and imagine what it must have been like in its heyday. Afterward, we take a short drive to the former imperial city of Meknes. We arrange a short guided walking tour for your journey back in time. We wrap up the day by taking you to what will be your headquarters for the next couple of days, Fes.
day 2
Good morning! It’s a fun/busy day today so we get started. First stop, the Royal Palace and Jewish Quarters. We take you for a short drive to the Hill of the Marinids, which overlooks the entire city of Fes. We hop back in the car and drive you down to the old medina. You say goodbye to your driver, as there are no cars allowed inside the old medina, and you spend the rest of the day with your guide. He will walk you through every narrow street, explaining everything as you walk along. There’s a visit to the Tomb of Idriss II, considered by many to be the holiest place in Morocco. You will visit the world’s oldest, continually running university and mosque, the University of al-Qarawiyyin. You will wander through the souks and your last stop will be the Chouara tannery. You will love this trip, no doubt. We offer this as a stand-alone trip, and you can see more details about it on our Fes Day Trip page.
Day 3
We want to get you to Merzouga in time for sunset, so we’re on the road at 8:00 a.m. today! Don’t worry, our first stop is for coffee in the adorable resort town of Ifrane. Afterwards, we take a quick break to feed Monkeys and then we’re on the road. We stop so you can meet the nomad people and learn how they live. We have lunch in a city famous for its apples, Midelt. We’ll wind our way through the mountains and countryside and have you to Merzouga just in time for a camel ride to your camp while the sun sets. It’s beautiful.
day 4
If you’re anything like us, you stayed up late, dancing, singing and maybe drinking, by the campfire with the locals? It was great, wasn’t it? If you’re anything like us, you still caught that stunning sunrise this morning? Breathtaking. Where were we? No long road trips today, just a short drive to check out the 400 Million year old fossils and if you’re up for it, a glass of camel milk? Lunch in Midelt is always a nice thing. Afterward, you still have plenty of daylight left - if you like, you can rent a dune buggy or sand board and explore those dunes. We either guide you back to your camp or drop you off at your hotel or riad, and we will greet you tomorrow morning. Not quite as early this time
Day 5
Our last day together. We’re bad at goodbyes, but we know you have somewhere else to be. Today, it’s Tangier. It’s a long day on the road, but we stop wherever and whenever you like. You’ll see ancient kasbahs and villages as we drive along, as well as the natural beauty of Morocco. We have you to Tangier in the evening, just in time to take a nice hot shower and relax before you drift off to sleep. Thank you for trusting us with 5-days of your life. We hope you will remember this trip forever, and talk about it to your friends, often.
