fes to marrakech
Much like our 3-day trip but with an additional day - you’re welcome! We meet in Fes and say goodbye in Marrakech, but we have an exceptional time in between! Also, like our 3-day trip, we’ll do this one the other way around. The highlights of this 4-day adventure are below. Happy traveling!
day 1
We’re off to an early start today – we want to get you to Merzouga in time for sunset. We leave Fes and head out, making our first stop in the city of Ifrane aka the Switzerland of Morocco. It’s an adorable resort town, and a great spot to grab a coffee and take some pictures that will confuse your friends back home. A short drive from here, we stop again so that we can feed the Barbary Macaque monkeys. They’re gentle and fun to watch, and they love to be fed. We head back on the road again toward our destination, and we stop to meet the Nomad people on the way to see how they live. It’s a great human experience you will not want to miss, and one you will never forget. We stop for a lunch break in Midelt, a city famous for its apples, before we head through the beautiful Ziz Valley with it’s spectacular views. There will be opportunity to stop for photographs and breaks along our route. We make it to Merzouga just before sunset with enough time for you to ride a camel to your camp site. Once there, you will be shown to your luxury tent where you can clean up and get ready for dinner. Once you’re finished eating, you will be invited to sit near the campfire and enjoy the local musical talent. It’s so much fun.
You’re in North Africa, in the Sahara Desert, you rode a camel to a desert camp, and now you’re dancing near the campfire underneath a blanket of stars that seem close enough to touch. Goodnight!
day 2
Good morning! Did you rise in time to greet the sunrise? It’s as beautiful as yesterday’s sunset, yes? We assume you feel amazing after a well-deserved rest; that you were able to enjoy the music and dancing by the campfire, and that you’re ready for Day 2 of your adventure. We’re going to take a short drive to the city of Erfoud to see the Paleolithic fossils. Yes, 450 Million years ago, Morocco was underwater and today you get to see the remnants of it. It’s a great experience. Afterward, you might be thirsty, so how about a nice glass of camel milk? Its afternoon, and whether you’re staying your second night at your desert camp or if you have other accommodations set, you still have time to rent a dune buggy, quad or sandboard and take on the dunes of the Sahara before you call it a day?
day 3
It’s Day 3, time flies. We pick you up after breakfast and we head out. Our first stop today is the city of Tinghir where we will see the beautiful Toudra Gorge and visit the Amazigh people. We get to see how they live and how they make their world-famous carpets. They’re lovely, welcoming people. It’s a highlight of the day. Next we head to Boumalen Dades stopping for pictures and breaks along the way until we arrive at your lodgings for the night.
day 4
Our morning starts on the Road of the Kasbahs. We’ll pass ancient Kasbahs and villages, some still inhabited today. We take a morning break at the City of Roses. We make it to Ourzazete and we visit the Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Movie Studios. Why a movie studio out here you wonder? Our next stop will look all too familiar as it’s been in many movies and television shows (Gladiator and Game of Thrones to name two), it’s Aït Benhaddou, yet another UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s ancient fortified city, still inhabited. It’s an amazing journey back in time (like a lot of things you see in Morocco). If your guide asks you if you want to walk to the top, we highly recommend you say yes. The view is stunning. We need to get going because we still want you to see Tizi n’Tichka. It’s beautiful and you can’t miss it. We’re nearly to Marrakech, but we make one last stop at the argan cooperative, where you see how this valuable oil is processed by hand, by the local women, from beginning to end. It’s a fun experience. Finally, we arrive at Marrakech! Thank you for spending the last 4 days with us. We are honored to be a part of your Moroccan experience, and we hope you enjoyed your journey.
