MARRAKECH TO FES
We offer this 3-day trip because it’s just a lot of fun. Meeting the beautiful Amazigh people, walking back in time into historical sites, and seeing the most stunning views ever, what’s not to love? Where else can you see 400 Million year old fossils, have a glass of camel milk and feed monkeys? We love this trip so much, we even offer it the other way around: Fes to Marrakech. Let us know what you need!
In the meantime, scroll down and take a look at the snapshot of your journey. We’re honored and excited to be a part of your experience!
DAY 1
From Marrakech we head through the picturesque Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass (the gateway to the Sahara - also the highest mountain pass in North Africa) toward Ourzazate. Your driver will stop along the way so you can stretch, breathe fresh mountain air, and take photographs. En route, you will visit a UNESCO World Heritage site, Aït Benhaddou, a historic fortified village, located on an ancient caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Go ahead, pinch yourself. It’s real. Looks familiar? Gladiator, Game of Thrones and other great movies/television shows were filmed here. After your visit at Aït Benhaddou, your driver will take you to the Atlas Movie Studios for a quick tour and then a stop at the Taourirt Kasbah for pictures. One last stop at the cooperative of roses (think rose water) before we drop you in Boumalne Dades for that well-deserved night’s sleep.
DAY 2
Good morning! If you want to see the sunset in the Sahara Desert today, we need to get on the road. We’re leaving Boumalne Dades and headed toward Merzouga. We cover a fair amount of road today, but we will stop for photographs, stretching and whatever else you like. We take time to stop along our journey and greet the local Amazigh children with small gifts. Heartstrings beware. We travel through the beautiful valleys and the spectacular Todra Gorge and on the Road of the Kasbahs. We stop so you can meet local Amazigh, see how they live, and watch how they make their world-famous rugs. Last stop, your amazing desert camp experience in Merzouga. How does a camel ride to your camp with a setting sun in the background sound?
DAY 3
It’s our last day and we’re sad about it, but if we ever want to make it to Fes we must get going! First stop on today’s road trip, Erfoud for some Palaeozoic fossils, and if you’re thirsty, a nice glass of camel milk! On the road again through the Ziz Valley Ouled Chakur and a stop for lunch in Midelt (a town in the high plains between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas Mountains), known for its delicious apples. We will stop and visit the Nomad people along the way, another serious tug at the heartstrings. We’re nearly to Fes, but what’s missing? Monkeys! Let’s stop and feed the monkeys! Last stop, the pristine Ifrane City (the Switzerland of Morocco) before we reach our final destination, Fes.
